Masks

Fake fake fake..

That's what they are

Their ingenuine smiles cajoling

Guaranteeing to you that everything is fine and dandy

Yet you turn away for a moment and they don't hesitate to bury their fangs into your flesh

Chewing through you like they were on a mission

Digging deeper until they scrape the surface of your soul

And as you turn back the masks are donned again and the purest of intentions are portrayed

What else is expected from a mask?

More than a vehicle to conceal true feelings

And hide what truly is

As the days and nights advance

The masks will crack to reveal what lies beneath

And agony it may cause indeed

But the awful truth is a coveted friend

Till the sun from the west arise and veritas prevails

'tis the day that I await
